The Criminal Investigations Unit (CIU) is a part of the Support Services Division. The CIU is responsible for General and Follow-up Investigations, Arson, Homicide, Larceny/Theft, Robberies, Fraud, Burglaries, Serious Assaults, Sexual Assaults, Rape, Drug Evidence, and Firearm Evidence. CIU is made up of Lieutenant, 1 Sergeant, and 4 Detectives. Members of CIU receive additional specialized training in order to prepare them for the specific types of investigations they are responsible for. Examples of this training include fingerprinting, crime scene photography, interview & interrogation techniques, and evidence collection.

Detectives assigned to investigations are often time consuming, demanding and challenging. Detectives work closely with many other agencies including the Everett Fire Investigations, Department of Social Services, Middlesex District Attorney’s Office, State Police Crime Lab, State Police Warrant Task Force, and the Federal Bureau of Investigations
